Details
여수YeosuYeosu sits on a bay in South Jeolla Province, with islands, bridges and a lit-up waterfront that people call 여수 밤바다Yeosu BambadaYeosu night sea. This guide covers how to reach Yeosu from Seoul, the main sights, local food in general terms and a one-day plan. Hours, fares and timetables were checked against official sources in October 2026, and they can change.
Yeosu at a glance
Yeosu has three parts that matter to a visitor.
- The station and Expo area. 여수엑스포역Yeosu Expo-yeokYeosu-EXPO Station is the end of the Jeolla line and the KTX terminus. The Expo grounds and the harbour are close by.
- The old centre and waterfront. 진남관JinnamgwanJinnamgwan Hall, the shopping streets and 종포해양공원Jongpo Haeyang GongwonJongpo Maritime Park are here.
- 돌산DolsanDolsan island. It is joined to the mainland by Dolsan Bridge and holds the cable car terminal, Dolsan Park and, at the far tip, Hyangiram.

Who it suits
It suits couples, photographers and sea-view and seafood lovers. Plan a night, because the best views come after dark and Hyangiram's sunrise needs an early start.
Where to stay
Near Yeosu-EXPO Station suits train arrival and the night bus. Jongpo and the old centre suit evening walks and Jinnamgwan. Dolsan suits an early start for Hyangiram. See where to stay.
Getting there
By KTX. This is the usual route from Seoul. Korail's timetable for the Jeolla line (stated as valid from 1 November 2026) shows trains from 용산YongsanYongsan Station to 여수엑스포Yeosu ExpoYeosu-EXPO.
| Item | Timetable listing |
|---|---|
| First departure from Yongsan | 05:08, arriving 08:15 |
| Last departure from Yongsan | 21:48, arriving 00:36 |
| Most trains | 2 h 48 min to 3 h 14 min |
| Slower trains | 3 h 40 min to 3 h 52 min |
| Last train back to Yongsan from Yeosu-EXPO | 21:54, arriving 00:46 |
Some trains run only on Fridays to Sundays or Mondays to Thursdays, so check your date. Some Jeolla-line KTX trains start at Seoul Station or Suseo instead; see KTX and trains for the stations and how to buy a ticket. This guide did not confirm the fare for this route, so use the Korail fare table or app.
By express bus. Third-party timetable sites list the bus from Seoul's Central City terminal to 여수종합버스터미널Yeosu Jonghap Beoseu TeomineolYeosu Bus Terminal at about 4 hours 15 to 20 minutes. This guide could not read KOBUS's live timetable, so look up your date on KOBUS.
By air. 여수공항Yeosu GonghangYeosu Airport handles domestic flights and sits at Yulchon-myeon, outside the city. The airport's page says the city-bus stop is about 30 m to the right of Gate 2, and the taxi stand is across the crosswalk. This guide did not verify current routes or ride times, so check the airline schedule and Korea Airports Corporation's Yeosu page.
Getting around
The sights are spread along the coast, so plan your moves.
- City buses. Yeosu's transport site lists the routes and timetables; it has an English language setting. This guide could not read the fares. Hyangiram buses are listed below. For general rules, see the city bus guide.
- Taxis. The practical choice for late evenings and for the trip to Dolsan. See taxis and Kakao T.
- The night double-decker bus. The city lists a night course with one trip a day at 19:30 from Yeosu-EXPO Station, which becomes 19:00 from November to February. It takes about 2 hours 30 minutes and stops at Dolsan Park and Sohodongdong Bridge. The adult fare on the city page is ₩10,000, and it does not run on the first and third Monday of each month. The city page also lists days when a busker bus replaces it, so check the page for your date.
Top sights
Yeosu night sea
The night views come from the curving coastline, the lit bridges and the island lights. Yeosu's tourism page names these places:
- Dolsan Park, above Dolsan Bridge, for views of Dolsan Bridge and Geobukseon Bridge.
- Jongpo Maritime Park, a walkway of about 1.5 km along the water, with views of the sea cable car and both bridges.
- Odongdo, with its lit breakwater and music fountain.
- The Yeosu National Industrial Complex, whose refinery and plant lights make a coloured skyline across the water.
The city also lists a Yeosu Night Sea fireworks festival and busking programme without dates on the page checked. Look at the city's culture and event listings before you plan around either.
Dolsan Bridge
돌산대교Dolsan DaegyoDolsan Bridge joins Dolsan island to the mainland. It is a cable-stayed bridge, 450 m long and 62 m high, completed on 15 December 1984. The city says a lighting system with eight programmes and about 50 basic colours was installed in October 2000, so the bridge changes colour at night.
Yeosu Maritime Cable Car
여수 해상케이블카Yeosu Haesang KeibeulkaYeosu Maritime Cable Car links Dolsan Park and Jasan Park across the water, over a 1.5 km line next to Geobukseon Bridge. The two terminals are 돌산정류장Dolsan JeongnyujangDolsan Station (Dolsan-ro 3600-1, Dolsan-eup) and 자산정류장Jasan JeongnyujangJasan Station (Odongdo-ro 116). You can buy and board at either one.
- Hours. The operator's home page listed 09:30–21:30 for 23 October 2026. It also listed safety checks on Wednesday 11 and Wednesday 25 November 2026, with service starting at 14:00 on those days. It warns that these times can change.
- Fares. On the operator's page, a standard cabin costs ₩17,000 return or ₩14,000 one way for an adult. A crystal cabin (glass floor) costs ₩24,000 return or ₩19,000 one way. Discounted fares need proof.
- Tickets. The operator says there is no booking. You buy on the day at the counter or a machine. The machine takes cards only.
- Rules. Food and drink may not go into the cabin. The crystal cabin restricts wheeled items (suitcases, strollers, wheelchairs) and sharp items such as hiking poles.
The operator's phone number is 061-664-7301. If the wind is strong, call or check the home page before you go.
Odongdo
오동도OdongdoOdongdo Island is a small island in Hallyeohaesang National Park, reached by a 768 m breakwater. Yeosu's tourism page says it is about 10 minutes by car from downtown and about 15 minutes on foot from the entrance car park. A camellia train, bicycles and walking are the ways across, and a forest trail loops the island for about 2.5 km. The island has around 3,000 camellia trees, which start to flower in February and peak in March. The music fountain runs outside winter. This guide did not find hours or an entry fee on the pages checked.
Hyangiram sunrise
향일암HyangiramHyangiram Hermitage is a Buddhist hermitage on a cliff at the tip of Dolsan, known for sunrise views. Yeosu's page describes a steep stone staircase from the car park, a narrow rock gate you must stoop through, and more steps to the main hall. A fire in December 2009 destroyed the main hall and nearby buildings, and rebuilding has gone on since then. The page gives no hours, fee or sunrise time, so look up the sunrise time for your date and allow time for the climb in the dark.
The city lists these buses to Hyangiram (impo stop, as of the page checked):
| Bus | From Yeosu-EXPO Station | From the intercity bus terminal |
|---|---|---|
| 111 | 05:00 and 06:10 | 8 trips, 08:10–20:20 |
| 111-1 | 3 trips, 04:30–06:50 | 12 trips, 07:30–21:45 |
Check the timetable the night before, because trips change.
Jinnamgwan and Yi Sun-sin
진남관JinnamgwanJinnamgwan Hall was built in 1599 on the site of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's former base, the Jeolla Left Naval Command. It is a single-storey wooden hall with 75 bays and 70 pillars, and it is National Treasure No. 304 (2001). Restoration status: after about 10 years of dismantling repair, Yeosu city reopened it on 30 May 2025, according to press reports from May 2025. It also has floodlighting at night. This guide did not find hours or an entry fee, so check with the city or the site (061-659-5710, from Yeosu's page).

Yi Sun-sin is linked to the turtle ship, an armoured warship, and a reconstruction is on display on a Yeosu waterfront.

The Expo area
The Yeosu South Sea World Island Expo is on from 5 September to 4 November 2026. The city lists the main venue at Jinmo in Dolsan, with the Yeosu Expo grounds, Gaedo and Geumo-do as sub-venues, and 6 October as a closed day. A shuttle timetable notice covers 19 October to 4 November. Tickets and hours are on the official Expo site. After 4 November the Expo is over.
Food
Yeosu is a seafood city. 갓김치gatkimchiMustard-leaf kimchi is the local speciality, and Yeosu's tourism site lists two Dolsan venues for learning about it: the Dolsan Gat Kimchi Information Village and the Dolsan Gat Experience Center. This guide did not check their hours. Ask at a restaurant what is in season, and see ordering at a restaurant.
Seasons
- Autumn: the Expo runs until 4 November. See Korea in November and the autumn foliage guide.
- November to February: the night bus leaves at 19:00, and the Odongdo fountain does not run in winter.
- February and March: the Odongdo camellias bloom, peaking in March.

A sample day
This plan starts with the 06:53 KTX from Yongsan (check it on your date; it arrives at 10:07).
| Time | Plan | Getting there |
|---|---|---|
| 10:07 | Arrive at Yeosu-EXPO Station | KTX from Yongsan |
| 10:30 | Odongdo breakwater walk | Taxi or bus (check the route) |
| 13:00 | Jinnamgwan, then lunch in the old centre | Taxi |
| 15:30 | Cable car from Jasan to Dolsan (check hours and wind) | Taxi or walk |
| 17:30 | Dolsan Park for the bridge lights | On foot from the Dolsan terminal |
| 19:30 | Night double-decker bus, if it runs that day | Starts at Yeosu-EXPO Station |
| 21:54 | Last KTX to Yongsan (arrives 00:46) | Check the timetable |
A same-day return leaves little time for Hyangiram. Stay a night if you want to see it.
Common mistakes
- Planning Hyangiram sunrise without a ride. Few buses run that early, so check the timetable or plan a taxi.
- Assuming the cable car runs all day. It lists 09:30–21:30 and has safety-check days in November.
- Expecting the fountain in winter. It stops outside the warm months, and camellias bloom in February and March.
