Details
Busan is Korea's second-largest city and its main port, spread along a long, hilly coast. It does not have one centre. The old port, the transit hub and the beaches are separate districts. This guide shows which district does what, how to arrive, and the station and exit for each sight. Facts were checked against official sources in October 2026.
Busan at a glance
The city runs from the old harbour in the west to the beaches in the east. KTX trains stop at 부산역Busan-yeokBusan Station, in the old downtown. From there, Nampo-dong and Jagalchi Market are two subway stops away. Haeundae Beach is on the far side of the city. Hills between the districts make trips longer than the map suggests, so count subway stops, not kilometres.

Getting there
By KTX from Seoul. In Korail's timetable from 1 November 2026, the fastest train from Seoul Station takes 2 hours 18 minutes. Most take 2 hours 40–50 minutes, and the slowest about 3 hours 25 minutes. The 10 November 2026 timetable has 55 departures from Seoul Station between 05:13 and 22:28. Korail's fare table from 1 September 2026 lists ₩54,400 in standard class and ₩78,900 in first class. Trains also run from Suseo Station in south-east Seoul (₩52,900 standard). Booking and boarding are explained in KTX and trains. If you land at Incheon first, see Incheon Airport to Seoul.
By air. 김해국제공항Gimhae Gukje GonghangGimhae International Airport is west of the city. The Busan–Gimhae Light Rail runs from the airport to Sasang (change for Line 2) and to Daejeo (Line 3). As of October 2026 the light rail costs ₩1,600 for one zone with a transit card. Since 19 September 2025 there is no extra regional transfer fee between the light rail and Busan buses or subway. You pay the higher of the fares.
Getting around
Subway. Busan has four subway lines, plus the light rail and the Donghae Line along the east coast. A T-money card bought in Seoul works here too: see T-money. Fares are distance-based: ₩1,600 for one section and ₩1,800 for two by card, and ₩1,550 on city buses (Busan Transportation Corporation fare data, updated September 2025).
Two trips first-timers make often:
- Busan Station to Nampo: 2 stops on Line 1.
- Busan Station to Haeundae: Line 1 to Seomyeon (6 stops), then Line 2 to Haeundae (16 stops). Allow about 50 minutes. A taxi takes about 25 minutes without traffic.
Buses and taxis. Several sights, including Gamcheon, Taejongdae and Haedong Yonggungsa, need a bus from the nearest station. Map apps sometimes show the last stretch as a walk, so check the bus number before you set off; see map apps and taxis.

Seasons
- Summer: beach season and the busiest, most expensive time in Haeundae. Late summer brings typhoon risk; boats, cable cars and outdoor plans can be cancelled at short notice.
- Autumn: mild weather. The fireworks festival is on 7 November 2026.
- Winter: usually milder than Seoul, but windy on the coast. Blue Line Park closes earlier (19:00 beach train, 18:00 Sky Capsule).
- Spring: comfortable for coastal walks and the Yeongdo cliffs.
Monthly weather is in weather by month.
