Details
인천IncheonIncheon is the city around Korea's main airport, but most visitors never see it. The old port area has a Chinatown, a row of buildings from the 1883 opening of the port, and a seaside island with a park and a small train. Songdo, to the south, is a newer district with a park and canal. This guide covers the sights, the subway routes from Seoul and from the airport, and a note for long layovers. Facts were checked against official sources in October 2026.
Incheon at a glance
Incheon has three areas worth a trip. The old port around 인천역Incheon-yeokIncheon Station holds Chinatown, Songwol-dong and the Open Port area. 월미도WolmidoWolmido Island is a short ride from the station. 송도SongdoSongdo is a separate district, reached on Incheon Line 1. The airport is on another island, Yeongjongdo, far from all three.
Addresses have changed. Incheon's own tourism site now lists Chinatown, Songwol-dong and Wolmido in Jemulpo-gu, and the airport in Yeongjong-gu, while VisitKorea still shows Jung-gu for some entries. They are the same places, so match the street name, not the district.
Where to stay
Most visitors treat Incheon as a day trip from Seoul.
| Area | Good for |
|---|---|
| Near Incheon Station | Chinatown, the Open Port area and Wolmido on foot |
| Songdo | Songdo Central Park and the museum |
| Near the airport | An early or late flight; see Incheon Airport to Seoul |
See where to stay. The Incheon Station Tourist Information Center is inside the station and, per the city, is open 09:00–18:00 and closed on 1 January, Lunar New Year and Chuseok. The airport centres are open 07:00–22:00.
Getting there
From Seoul by subway
Fares below are the Korail metropolitan rail table by transit card, valid from 28 February 2026. Korail's table does not give journey times, and this guide did not confirm one from an official timetable, so check a map app (map apps) for live times. Pay with a transit card (T-money).

- Line 1 to Incheon Station. The last stop. Chinatown is at 1번 출구il-beon chulguExit 1. VisitKorea lists restaurants 100–320 m from Exit 1, and Sinpo Market is 6 minutes on foot from it.
- Suin–Bundang Line. It runs to Incheon Station, where Korail's table lists fares, and stops at 신포역Sinpo-yeokSinpo Station, where Exit 4 is 3 minutes on foot from Sinpo Market. Its Songdo Station is a different station from Central Park Station on Incheon Line 1, so check the exit before you rely on it for the park.
- Line 7 and Incheon Line 1. Line 7 reaches 부평구청BupyeonggucheongBupyeong-gu Office, where you change to Incheon Line 1, which Incheon Transit lists with stops at Incheon City Hall, Central Park and the Songdo international business district. This is the route for Songdo.
The Incheon subway basic fare is ₩1,550 by card for the first 10 km (Incheon Transit Corporation).
From Incheon Airport
AREX all-stop trains connect to Incheon Line 1 and Line 2 at Gyeyang and Geomam (Incheon Transit's station list shows both stations). Check the transfer on the AREX guide, which also notes a timetable change from 23 October 2026. For Songdo, Incheon city lists limousine bus 6777 from the airport to Central Park Station. This guide did not confirm a direct airport bus or train to Incheon Station, so for Chinatown a taxi, or AREX to Seoul Station and then Line 1, are the options to compare. More options are in Incheon Airport to Seoul.
Long layover at Incheon Airport
You must clear immigration to leave the airport. Incheon Airport tells travellers to allow 1–2 hours after landing for immigration, so a short layover leaves no time for the city. Check whether you need a K-ETA or a visa first: see arrival, immigration and customs. Work back from your airline's check-in and boarding times for the way back, and see AREX for train hours.
The airport also runs transit tours for layovers of 24 hours or less. You register at a desk after immigration (Terminal 1, 1F near Gates 1 and 2; Terminal 2, 1F across from Exit 4) with your passport and both boarding passes, at least 30 minutes before the tour starts. The airport page did not list tour lengths or prices in the text this guide could read, so check the Transit Tour page.
Getting around
Incheon's sights are close together near the station. Chinatown, Songwol-dong and the Open Port area are on foot from Incheon Station. 월미바다열차Wolmi BadayeolchaWolmi Sea Train starts at Wolmi Sea Station, near Incheon Station, and calls at Wolmi Park, Wolmi Culture Street and a museum station. For Songdo, use Incheon Line 1 and then walk.
Top sights
Incheon Chinatown
차이나타운chainatawunChinatown begins at the 패루paeruPai-lou, a ceremonial gate opposite Incheon Station, a gate 17 m wide and 11 m high. No admission is listed for the area, and shops and restaurants keep their own hours. VisitKorea calls it the birthplace of Korean-style jjajangmyeon, and the 짜장면박물관jjajangmyeon bakmulgwanJajangmyeon Museum tells that story.
- Hours: 09:00–18:00. The Incheon Tour listing says last admission is 30 minutes before closing, but that listing was last updated in 2020.
- Closed: Mondays (and the next day if Monday is a holiday), per VisitKorea.
- Admission: VisitKorea lists adults ₩1,000, teenagers ₩700, military and police ₩500 and children free. The Incheon Tour listing gives children ₩500, so the sources differ.
Songwol-dong Fairy Tale Village
송월동 동화마을Songwol-dong DonghwamaeulSongwol-dong Fairy Tale Village is a neighbourhood of fairy-tale wall paintings near Chinatown, at 17 Songwol-dong 3-ga. The city lists it as open all year, and says about an hour is enough. The page does not list opening hours or admission. It sits among homes, so keep your voice down.
Open Port area (Gaehang-ro)
개항장gaehangjangOpen Port area is the street of early modern buildings from after 1883. VisitKorea lists the street as open 24 hours, free, with former bank buildings, the Incheon Art Platform and the Jemulpo Club. Guided tours are available by reservation (+82-32-760-6448). The Qing and Japanese concession boundary stairs separate the Chinatown side from the Japanese-era side, and climbing them leads to 자유공원Jayu GongwonJayu Park, which is open 24 hours. The Incheon Open Port Museum is at 89 Sinpo-ro 23beon-gil. This guide did not find its hours or fee, so call 032-760-7508 before you go.
Wolmido
Wolmido is a short ride from the station. 월미공원Wolmi GongwonWolmi Park is free and open every day: 05:00–23:00 from March to October and 05:00–22:00 from November to February. It has Korean gardens and an observation deck over the port. The Museum of Korea Emigration History is inside the park: 09:00–18:00 (last entry 17:30), free, closed Mondays and 1 January (Incheon city).
Wolmi Sea Train. The operator's hours: April to October, Friday to Sunday and holidays 10:00–19:00 and Tuesday to Thursday 10:00–18:00, November to March 10:00–18:00, closed Mondays. Adult fares are ₩11,000 on weekdays and ₩14,000 on weekends and holidays, and less for teenagers, seniors and children. VisitKorea lists ₩8,000 for adults and later weekend hours, which conflicts with the operator, so use the operator's page. VisitKorea gives a loop of about 42 minutes over 6.1 km.
Songdo Central Park and the canal
송도 센트럴파크Songdo SenteureolpakeuSongdo Central Park is at 160 Convensia-daero, open 24 hours and free. Parking costs ₩1,000 per 30 minutes. The East Boat House runs 10:00–21:00, with hours that change by season and weather. Other boat and bike rental prices were not confirmed this year. For the park, ask at the park office on +82-32-456-2860.

Incheon Urban History Museum
The museum is at 238 Incheon Tower-daero, at 센트럴파크역Senteureolpakeu-yeokCentral Park Station Exit 3 on Incheon Line 1. It is free, open 09:00–18:00 (last admission 17:30) and closed on Mondays (except holidays) and 1 January.
Food
Chinatown is known for jjajangmyeon, a noodle dish in black bean sauce. VisitKorea says it came to Korea after the port opened in 1883, when Chinese immigrants began making it near the Qing concession. Sinpo Market is a short walk away. Ordering help is in ordering at a restaurant, and costs are in the budget guide.
Seasons
Winter changes the opening hours. Wolmi Park closes an hour earlier from November to February, and the Wolmi Sea Train runs 10:00–18:00 from November to March. The East Boat House at Songdo changes hours with the weather. See weather by month.
A sample day
| Time | Plan | Getting there |
|---|---|---|
| 09:30 | Arrive at Incheon Station; Pai-lou and Chinatown | Line 1, Exit 1 |
| 10:30 | Jajangmyeon Museum (closed Mondays) | Walk |
| 11:30 | Songwol-dong, then the concession stairs and Jayu Park | Walk |
| 13:30 | Open Port area streets | Walk |
| 14:30 | Wolmi Sea Train, then Wolmi Park (check the season's hours) | Wolmi Sea Station |
| 17:00 | Back to Incheon Station and Seoul | Line 1 |
For Songdo, make it a second half-day: take Incheon Line 1 to Central Park Station, then the museum and the park.
Common mistakes
- Going on a Monday. The Urban History Museum, the Jajangmyeon Museum and the Wolmi Sea Train are closed on Mondays.
- Using an old listing. Several city pages were last updated in 2020, so confirm hours before you travel.
- Mixing up the two Songdo stops. Songdo Station (Suin–Bundang Line) is not Central Park Station (Incheon Line 1).
- Booking a layover too tightly. Immigration alone can take 1–2 hours.
Questions and answers
Can I visit Incheon from Seoul in one day?
Yes. Line 1 runs from Seoul Station to Incheon Station for ₩2,150 by card. Allow a full day for the old port and Wolmido.
Is Incheon Chinatown free?
Walking through is free. The Jajangmyeon Museum charges ₩1,000 for adults, and restaurants set their own prices.
Can I see Incheon during a layover?
Only if your layover is long enough to clear immigration and return. The airport advises 1–2 hours for immigration on arrival, so plan the rest around your airline's check-in time.
