Details
September is when the heat breaks. Early in the month it still feels like summer, and by the end the evenings are cool. It also holds Chuseok, Korea's harvest holiday, which changes how trains, shops and sights work for a few days. This guide is written on 20 October 2026 for September 2027. Where organizers had not announced 2027 dates, it says so and shows the 2026 pattern.

Chuseok 2027
추석ChuseokHarvest festival is the harvest holiday, on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month (VisitKorea). In 2027, KASI lists it from Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 September and shows no substitute holiday, so Wednesday 15 September is the middle day (KASI). In 2026 it was 24–26 September, ten days later.
Many businesses close for part of the holiday. The 2026 pattern, from the Korea Tourism Organization's Chuseok guide, was (VisitKorea):
- Free entry. Seoul's four main palaces, Jongmyo Shrine and the royal tombs, and about 40 national recreational forests.
- Closed on Chuseok Day. National museums and branches of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, most regional national museums, and many department stores, shopping malls and restaurants.
- Open. Convenience stores and shops near tourist attractions often stay open. Subways and city buses run as usual.
- Trains and express buses. Tickets sell out quickly, so book as soon as booking opens. See KTX and trains.
The arrangements for 2027 are not announced. Check each venue's site before you go.
